BC blueberry plant faces COVID-19 outbreak

British Columbia’s medical officer of health has reported an outbreak of COVID-19 at Fraser Valley Packers Inc in Abbotsford on July 23.  Fifteen workers and close contacts are self-isolating.

The company, founded in 1999, is operating at reduced capacity. It specializes in the processing, freezing, marketing and distribution of blueberries, red raspberries and blackberries.

British Columbia is among the top five producers of highbush blueberries in the world, and blueberries are Canada’s leading small fruit export.
