Ontario’s Local Food Week is under way and runs June 3 to 10, 2019. This year, the province has launched a program to recognize individuals, organizations and businesses who are leaders in supporting local foods.
Lloyd Herridge, a third-generation owner of Herridge’s Farm Fresh Market in Mississauga, is recognized as a 2019 champion by the Ontario minister of agriculture, food and rural affairs, Ernie Hardeman.
“The new Local Food Champion program is a celebration of our hardworking farmers, food processors and entrepreneurs who are committed to ensuring more local food is available for everyone in their community," said Minister Hardeman, "When we buy local food, we are making a choice to support Ontario, our communities and our economy."
Ontario’s farmers and food processors produce more than 200 food and beverage products to feed local communities and the world. The sector contributes more than $38 billion to the local economy and employs one in eight Ontarians.
