McCain Foods Canada plans to invest $12 million in its potato processing facility at Florenceville, New Brunswick.
The plans will add capacity to an existing French fry line that supplies food service and retail businesses. The first phase started in August while the second phase is expected to be complete by early 2020. The same production facility houses a potato specialty line, a $65 million investment, which was completed in 2017.
Local New Brunswick growers will benefit in that an extra 1,000 acres (400 ha) of potatoes will be required to meet demand.
